Few things are more romantisced in the travel space than ~The Road Trip ~. Rightly so in my opinion, for there is nothing I love more than being on the road. For the last five years we have been taking our campervan on some epic adventures, exploring the UK and beyond in our Volkswagen T4. We have seen some incredible sights and have built up a pretty impressive list of places we’ve fallen in love with along the way. I have put together a list of places you’d be foolish not to visit on your next road trip around the UK!

n early September, we found ourselves with a week off work and had (loosely) planned a camper trip. We knew we were off on a road trip, destination yet to be confirmed. We love our camper, our t4, but his spray paint job lasted longer than we anticipated and when the week off arrived, we were two campers minus a van.

Last autumn we were seeking a cosy weekend away. We wanted to enjoy our days outside admiring the changing season and our evenings snuggled up by the fire. We could think of nowhere better than the Brecon Beacons, especially as the area comes alive in the autumn. We stumbled across Medley Meadow online and booked our own safari tent stay.

As avid campers, we are not good at staying still. We love to seize the weekends for camping adventures and spend our evenings after work jumping in the van and heading out on a road trip. So when the world stopped during a pandemic, we found ourselves itching to be away more than ever. As the UK started to peel itself out of lockdown, we knew it was time to take to the road once more.

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to be able to stay at Log Jam cabin, nestled away within Little Menherion. I had been watching the build of this gorgeous cabin for a couple of years after seeing an article about Little Menherion in The Rolling Home magazine. Knowing it had recently been completed, it was the first place I thought of when we found ourselves looking for a last minute getaway.

The NC500 takes in 500 miles of Scotland's beautiful coastline. The roads are long and winding, with mountain views, magnificent wildlife, crumbling castles and quaint fishing villages around every bend. Shy of any major cities or busy spots after Inverness, the highlands are full of vast landscapes and few people. We knew the NC500 would be perfect for a van trip especially in winter where other travellers are few and far between.

In a bid to spend our birthdays in our camper van this year, we headed to beautiful Wales where we know and love best. We wanted to be at the beach to cheers to our big days (one day apart) and so we cruised on over to the Ceredigion coast for sunshine walks and evening campfires. As luck would have it, the weather was perfect for the few days we were there

It is no secret that Wales is absolutely beautiful. We have been travelling to Wales and camping out ever since we got the van and we are the biggest fans of the unspoiled lakes, forests and mountains. To top this off, Wales is so camper friendly and we always find an amazing spot to stay completely hassle-free . This weekend we found ourselves back on welsh soil exploring the gorgeous Elan Valley.

It's March right now in the UK and although this usually means we start to see daffodils grow and the sun out to say hi, this year March greeted us with snow. So much snow, that the UK pretty much stopped working for an entire weekend. I am usually a big fan of snowy weather but when March hit and I was starting to mentally prepare for spring and summer, I was a little bit disappointed. In light of this, I wanted to share a story of summers past, when the nights were long and warm and the sun was beating down. When we took our little camper down south to explore beautiful Cornwall in its prime.

When I saw the beautiful Woodman's Hut on Instagram, I knew that I had to book to stay there. My partner and I have been obsessed with cabins and tiny houses ever since we started camping out in the van and we hope to end up one day building a tiny space of our own. I knew that a few days spent in the Woodman's Hut in beautiful Scotland would be the perfect Christmas present.
