MEDLEY MEADOW
Last autumn we were seeking a cosy weekend away. We wanted to enjoy our days outside admiring the changing season and our evenings snuggled up by the fire. We could think of nowhere better than the Brecon Beacons, especially as the area comes alive in the autumn. We stumbled across Medley Meadow online and booked our own safari tent stay. Nestled in the Monmouthshire countryside between the Wye Valley and the Brecon Beacons National Park, Medley Meadow is a glamping and conservation area. Set in the 11 acres of organic meadows sit three luxury safari tent cabins. We loved that we were able to enjoy a cosy and luxurious stay but that we were somewhere that also had sustainability as its heart. We had such a dreamy stay at Medley Meadow and with the trees turning red yet again, we are dreaming of being back at the snug safari tent in the Welsh countryside.
CHERRY LUXURY TENT
We booked to stay in Cherry. Named after the four wild cherry trees that blossom in the Spring nearby, Cherry has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, with an open living room/dining room and kitchen area. There is also a lovely en-suite bathroom and super hot shower. The tent was so luxurious that you barely noticed you were actually in a tent! We spent a lot of time on the private decking area, toasting marshmallows over the chiminea and enjoying the locally-made iron firepit. There is also a log-burning fire inside that kept us toasty all weekend. Every detail was perfect and we had everything we could have possibly needed for our stay.
EXPLORING THE BRECON BEACONS
We spent the few hours of sunlight late Autumn offers outside exploring the Brecon Beacons. Mountains, forests, lakes and valleys lie around every bend in the Brecon Beacons and with our vintage beetle in tow, we had the best time adventuring around the area. The ancient mountains glow gloriously-green in the summer months, as we have experienced previously, but it is in the Autumn and Winter, when the hills are at their quietest, that I personally find they are most majestic. The area burns bright orange and red in the golden sunlight as if the Welsh Dragon itself breathed fire on them.
FOODIE SPOTS
As self-labeled coffee shop connoisseur’s, we of course had to find the best coffee spots nearby. Two favourites to mention are Bean & Bread, in Abergavveny town, rated highly for their excellent oat latte’s and vegan welsh rarebit as well as The Gardeners Kitchen, a farmshop and cafe that provides homemade treats and lunches using their homegrown goodies. Both excellent to fuel up for a day exploring the Brecon Beacons.
COSY EVENINGS
After a day of exploring the Welsh countryside, we would come back to Medley Meadow just before dark to chill out on the decking. We would light the chiminea, make a cuppa and sit around the fire toasting marshmallows until we were too cold to be outdoors. It was the perfect spot to unwind. Nights were spent heating up soup in the little kitchen and relaxing by the log fire. Bliss!
