LITTLE MENHERION
The middle of everywhere.
This is how Bernice and Huw affectionately describe their 12 acre smallholding in Cornwall. A place to escape, press pause and reconnect with the wild. Little Menherion has a cottage garden and barns, a workshop and artist studio, a dreamy stream and woodlands and now the gorgeous Log Jam cabin. Little Menherion is honestly my dream forever home and as they plan to create more cabins I cannot wait to see how Little M grows. You can find out more about Bernice, Huw, their adorable dogs and Little Menherion here.
LOG JAM CABIN
Earlier this year we were lucky enough to be able to stay at Log Jam cabin, nestled away within Little Menherion. I had been watching the build of this gorgeous cabin for a couple of years after seeing an article about Little Menherion in The Rolling Home magazine. Knowing it had recently been completed, it was the first place I thought of when we found ourselves looking for a last minute getaway. Log Jam cabin combined our love for being in the wild with dreamy luxury and we made the most of the four nights we spent there. After tackling the track leading the way to Little M we parked up and made the short walk to the cabin, hidden away in the magical woodlands. We were charmed by the inside, with a log burner, cosy sofa and fully equipped kitchen waiting for us. Bernice and Huw helped us find the hidden bedroom and then left us to it to enjoy our own piece of Cornish paradise. The bathroom is just a hop away from the cabin door with a compost loo and hot shower, fluffy towels and eco-friendly toiletries provided. As much as we loved the cabin, it is the setting that is the true highlight. Surrounded by trees and wildlife, we spent much of our time outside on the deck or down by the fire pit soaking in the outdoors, drinking beer and talking into the night.
DREAMY MORNINGS
Waking up in the cabin was no easy feat, with the luxurious king size bed too comfy to move from. We would stare out the window and watch the birds every morning before arguing about who should get up first to make coffee. Spoiler alert one of us found it harder to get out of bed than the other, ahem, Key! I would flick the radio on, make coffee and start on breakfast. We would either enjoy breakfast sat on the handmade wooden bench on the deck or would perch up on the breakfast bar. A woodland view guaranteed either way. Mornings are so easy when you wake up in a cosy cabin in the middle of everywhere.
GET OUTSIDE
Wildlife is in abundance at Little Menherion and the area around Log Jam is full of different types of flora and fauna. I loved exploring the surrounding area and there are stacks of books inside the cabin to help identify everything around the land. The magic of Log Jam cabin is definitely the wild wonderland that it is situated on.
BEAUTIFUL CORNWALL
If you can pluck up the courage to peel yourself away from slow-paced cabin life, there is plenty to keep you entertained in the surrounding areas. We left a few times to seek out beach walks and Cornish pasties, soaking up the endlessly charming Cornwall. Little Menherion is the perfect base for exploring lovely Cornwall but we found we could not stay away from Log Jam for too long!
COSY EVENINGS
Evenings were spent outside by the fire pit drinking beer and waiting for the stars to come up. We love nothing more than sitting around a fire chatting into the night (conversations may have been based around trying to think of ways to live in the cabin forever!). When we got too cold we would come in and warm our toes up by the log fire. We made the most of the log burner oven to bake potatoes for dinner and apple crumble for late night dessert. Nights weren’t over until numerous games of competitive scrabble were had.
THE ULTIMATE STAYCATION
In recent years people have been opting to spend less time abroad and are choosing to explore more of their home country. We love spending time in the UK and you will usually find us adventuring around the country in our campervan. Discovering quirky accommodation has become part of the fun and Log Jam cabin was the perfect staycation. If you are anything like us, you are waiting patiently for the news that we can travel around the UK again following the coronavirus lockdown. Like most people, we have written off travelling abroad and have our hopes pinned on being able to explore the UK once it is safe to do so. What’s more, we will be looking for quiet places to escape to and relax after the chaos of the virus. Don’t you think Log Jam would be the perfect place?
You can find out more about Log Jam cabin here including updates on when they hope to be taking bookings again. Until that day, we will be dreaming of the beautiful cabin in the woods.
Stay safe.
