Sunburnt noses, balmy sea-swims and rows of towels lined out in the sand are scenes one conjures up when thinking of summers in the sunny Mediterranean. But, as we bob along the glistening sea atop our paddle boards, I have to remind myself that we are in fact in Wales, not Majorca. We’ve been invited along to Wales by Visit Swansea Bay, the official tourism board for Swansea, Mumbles and the Gower, to explore the best of what this little corner of the country has to offer.

Ah, the British summer. It is my humble opinion that nowhere compares to the UK in the summer. Long walks in the countryside, lazy afternoons reading in the balmy sunshine and camping adventures make up the majority of how I spend my time once the brief but sweet summer hits our Isles. Spending some time at Come By, in Powys, Wales, combines those favourites perfectly. Getting back to nature is encouraged here at Come by, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that means back to basics. In fact, off-grid has never looked easier.

Set amongst woodlands and lush meadows, Cynefin’s pods and lodges offer luxurious outdoor-indoor getaways. We opted to stay in Big Bro, the newest addition to the Kip and Nook family and had everything we needed for a couple nights of relaxation.

Stockholm is enchanting year round, but it is in the winter that the Nordic capital truly becomes her most majestic. It is the perfect place to travel to at Christmastime as the whole city partakes in festive merriment. Shops compete for the most charming window displays, buildings are wrapped in twinkly lights and the smell of saffron wafts out of every cosy coffee shop, inviting hour-long fika breaks. Add Christmas markets, snowy walks and ice-skating rinks into the mix and it is truly one of the best places to get into the festive spirit.

I have had my eye on Robin Hood’s Bay for a while now and finally got to visit as part of our trip to the North East coast this September. The Bay is an incredibly picturesque village by the sea, known for its exciting smuggling history and fishing heritage which tumbles right down to the shore. Despite the tricky trip down (bent knees at the ready!), it really is a wonderful place to visit. The village is full of tiny passages and secret turns in which you’ll find artsy shops selling makers goods, restaurants serving up local dishes and a couple of pubs to whet your whistle. We totally recommend ordering a whisky and enjoying the very drink that was once considered contraband and smuggled up through the cobbled streets!
